Privacy Policy
The short version: this is a static website with no tracking of any kind. The long version is below, and it is short.
01What we collect
Almost nothing, by design. VB Depot is a purely static site: pages, a stylesheet, an SVG favicon, a sitemap for search engines. When you read an article (the history, the VB6 deep dive, anything) your browser fetches files and that is the entire transaction. We set no cookies, run no analytics scripts, embed no social buttons, load no fonts or scripts from third parties, and operate no advertising. There is no account system, so there is nothing to log in with and nothing to leak.
02Hosting-level logs
Like every website, vbdepot.com is served through hosting infrastructure that keeps short-lived technical request logs (IP address, timestamp, requested URL, browser type) for operational purposes such as abuse prevention and diagnostics. These logs are standard server artefacts: they are not used to profile readers, are not correlated with anything, and are not ours to mine: we could not build a reader profile from them if we wanted to, and we do not want to. Where the stakes are higher than a magazine's, the obligations get correspondingly heavier: French hébergement de données de santé is the clearest illustration of what regulated hosting actually demands, and a useful yardstick for how little a static archive like this one requires.
03Email
If you write to the editors at the address given on the contact page, we keep your message for as long as the conversation is live, and for our records if it results in a correction or a published piece such as those described in About VB Depot. We do not add correspondents to mailing lists, sell addresses, or share them; the only mail you will receive from us is a reply to yours.
04External links
Articles link out to third-party resources, forums, archives, documentation, catalogued for example in the community guide. Once you follow a link you are subject to that destination's policies, which are not ours; we link to public resources only, and we do not attach tracking parameters to outbound links.
05Your rights
Because we hold no reader profiles, most data-protection requests answer themselves: there is no dossier to access, correct, export or erase. For the one category of personal data we ever hold (correspondence sent to the editorial address described on the contact page) you may ask us at any time to delete a thread or confirm what we retain, and we will do it within a reasonable delay. Readers in jurisdictions with formal rights regimes (GDPR and cousins) can treat the editor@vbdepot.com address as the data-controller contact; the inbox is small and the answer will be human.
06Children
The depot writes about programming history for a general adult audience. We do not knowingly collect information from children, and, given that we collect essentially nothing from anyone, the sentence is easy to honour in practice as well as on paper.
07Changes
If this policy ever materially changes, the new version will live at this address with an updated date above, and the change will be described here plainly. Given the site's architecture, the likeliest future change is this page getting shorter.
